The Strand Suspension Lamp Closed was designed by Benjamin Hubert for Muuto.
Founded in Copenhagen in 2006, Muuto quickly built a name for itself by taking traditional Scandinavian design ideas and blending them with the latest techniques and materials. Young British designer, Benjamin Hubert brings his background in industrial design to his furniture and lighting work. His creative agency, LAYER, has won several prizes including the iF and Red Dot Design awards.
The Strand Suspension Lamp Closedis a perfect example of Hubert's love of industrial design combined with a light feel that is totally contemporary. A large opening at the top directs a bright light upwards while a smaller opening at the bottom of the shade creates a gentle pool of downward light. The shade itself, with its elegant colour and cloud-like appearance, provides a soft diffusion of light. Its steel frame is covered with a complex structure of tiny strands sprayed into a cocoon-like resin. The Strand Suspension Lamp Closedmeasures 54.8cm in height with a diffuser diameter of 60cm and an adjustable cable length of 400cm. It is part of a lighting family that includes two closed and three open pendants.
