The S 33 Cantilever Chair Leather was designed by Mart Stam for the brand Thonet.
Named after its founder, a master carpenter, success came for Thonet with the introduction into furniture production of both mass manufacturing processes and tubular steel. Today, the label's lines are a blend of both classic 20th-century and modern designs. When Mart Stam first showcased his cantilever chairs in Stuttgart in 1927 they caused a sensation in the design world. He is now considered a pioneer in contemporary furniture design.
The S 33 Cantilever Chair Leather was among the first chairs not to stand on four straight legs and was part of a movement that took the formality out of furniture. The cantilever chair is minimalist in appearance but invitingly comfortable to use. The chair's distinctive frame is made from chrome-plated tubular steel. This is then spanned with high-quality full-grain leather to create a springy seat and backrest. The S 33 Cantilever Chair Leather is a classic design that works equally well as occasional seating in living rooms, as a dining chair and as office furniture.
