Lampadina Table Lamp
The Lampadina Table Lamp was created by renowned designer Achille Castiglioni for leading Italian lighting house Flos.
Castiglioni studied both arts and classics before changing direction and graduating in architecture from Milan Polytechnic. Along with his two brothers, also architects, he worked in exhibition design and architectural projects before turning his attention to design. Castiglioni went on to be professor of industrial design at Milan Polytechnic and this combination of industrial influences and domestic style can be seen in many of his pieces.
The Lampadina Table Lamp Castiglioni created for Flos is one such piece. The bare bulb design is immediately striking but this simple concept hides many discrete features. For example, the glass of the bulb itself has a sandblasted finish. This helps to create a very special, subtle kind of illumination, perhaps unexpected from such a stark appearance. The strength of the light from the Lampadina Table Lamp can also be altered by selecting from direct or diffuse lighting settings. The aluminium base doubles as a cord winder, allowing for a tidier look. This outstanding Lampadina Table Lamp stands 24cm high and 13cm in diameter.
