Eames Fiberglass Side Chair DSR White Base
The Eames Fiberglass Side Chair DSR White Base was designed by Charles and Ray Eames for the brand Vitra.
Launched in 1950, much of the label's success was due to its collaboration with Charles and Ray Eames. Today, Vitra is still producing iconic designs from the 20th century. Charles and Ray Eames were hugely influential in mid-20th century design. They brought their love of art and architecture to their iconic furniture. Winners of multiple awards, their work is showcased around the world.
The Eames Fiberglass Side Chair DSR White Base was created when the Eames entered a design competition organised by MoMA in New York. Their seat featured a shell moulded in one piece to fit the human body and won second prize but was too expensive to mass-produce in metal. They turned instead to fibreglass, which was easy to mould while having pleasant tactile qualities and, with its visible fibres, the appearance of a natural material. The fibreglass body is available in a wide choice of colours and sits on an Eiffel Tower-style steel wire base finished in white.
