Trabant 2 Suspension Pivotable
The Trabant Concrete Suspended Lamp has been created by Joachim Manz for the brand Tecnolumen. The designer is known for his outstanding sculptures and wall art for public areas. He applied his gift to design an unusual lamp made from concrete. The innovative piece won the designer the 2009 iF Product Design Award and the 2010 Design Plus Award.
The Trabant Concrete Suspended Lamp translates to satellite in English. This is because its design replicates that of the moon. In designing this lamp, Manz aspired to eliminate the mechanical challenge of compaction that concrete poses. He did so by pouring and compacting it by hand. This results in small air pockets on the hemispherical shade that give it texture and resemble the face of the moon with its craters. A diffuser made of matter or clear glass is fitted on the underside. It casts direct light downwards. The shade is suspended from the ceiling with a narrow cable.
The Trabant Concrete Suspended Lamp has a diameter of 16cm and its suspension height is 302cm. It comes in cement grey. It is available with the lens positioned at different including centred, recessed or angled to the right or left. It works with a GU10 bulb. The light source is included in the delivery.
