Original 1227 Desk Lamp
The classical Original 1227 Desk Lamp was designed in 1932 by the legendary George Carwardine, and was mass marketed as Anglepoise a couple of years later as its design caught the world's imagination. Carwardine, already a successful engineer, had long been fascinated with spring and lever based mechanisms, and when he designed this lamp it was a chance to bring his ideas fully to life. He had been working on vehicle suspension systems, recognised the possibility to transfer their functionality to other spheres, and thus a design classic was born.
This modern updating of the Original 1227 LED Desk Lamp swaps an energy efficient LED bulb for the old style incandescent bulbs used in Carwardine's time, but is in all other respects the same Anglepoise lamp which has entered the world's design vernacular. Its classic, austere lines are at once modern and traditional, and mean it would fit into almost any room; the possibilities are endless. Made of hard-wearing metal, it is available in a number of colour finishes, and at a compact 31cm tall will fit into even the smallest space.
