1000 Karat Blau Suspension Lamp
The 1000 Karat Blau Suspension Lamp was designed by Axel Schmid for the brand Ingo Maurer. Schmid first trained in metal and wood work before studying industrial design. Upon graduation, he won a scholarship to study in Japan. Having completed his studies, he started working for Ingo Maurer. Over the years he has won awards such as the Bavarian State Award for young designers. He also lectures at different design schools and workshops.
The 1000 Karat Blau Suspension Lamp gives a soft, warm light thanks to short-wave Blau light waves that are filtered through gold molecules. This gives a lovely blue hue, an effect that can be maximised by installing several lamps in a cluster. The lamp is housed in a metallic frame that supports 20 acrylic and gold leaf shades. They keep reflecting light to give that warm, golden glow. The large pendant lamp is impressive even before the illumination shines through. When the light is switched on, the way it is bounced back and forth within the golden panels to give a vivid illumination is an absolute delight.
