Glaoui Tumbuctú Rug
The Glaoui Tumbuctú Rug was created by Sandra Figuerola for GAN.
Launched in Spain in the late 1980's by José Gandia-Blasco, the indoor design label GAN specialises in beautiful designs that are crafted by hand and make use of traditional skills and techniques. Fair trade and sustainable production methods are always used. After studying fine arts, Sandra Figuerola was a leader of the Valencian La Nave design movement in the 1980's and now works from her own studio El Almudin as well as lecturing in Madrid.
Like much of her textile work, the Glaoui Tumbuctú Rug is strongly influenced by Moorish graphic design and showcases the strong role of textiles in Moroccan culture. With its lively pattern that incorporates these cultural influences along with cleverly balanced colour contrasts and a subtle use of fringing, the rug provides a striking accent in any room of the home without being over dominant. It is complemented by other design pieces by Figuerola, including a comfortable pouffe in the same pattern. The Glaoui Tumbuctú Rug is available in two sizes, 170 x 240 cm and 200 x 300 cm and is handcrafted in India from 100% wool.
