MR 517 Side Table
The MR 517 Side Table was designed by Ludwig Mies Van de Rohe for the brand Thonet.
Van der Rohe needs little introduction. Generally seen as one of the fathers of modernist architecture and product design, he was a leading light and the last director of the Bauhaus, and a prolific innovator in everything from skyscraper design to home furnishings. His furnishings have found a natural home with the German-Austrian Thonet label, which also has a glorious history of innovation and creativity.
The MR 517 Side Table was created in the late 1920s and seems like it hasn't aged a day. A fine creation by one of the masters of modernism, the table has a pure aesthetic and utilises high-quality materials, producing sublime results. It uses tubular steel as the basis for a sturdy but minimalist construction, and couples shining steel with beautifully glass . In archetypal modernist style, this ensures that the structure of the table is visible, without compromising its functionality.
