Thonet S 34 Cantilever Armchair leather
The Thonet S 34 Cantilever Armchair Leather was designed by Mart Stam for the brand Thonet.
Cabinet-maker Michael Thonet started experimenting with bent wooden slats for furniture in 19th-century Germany. He went on to create unique furniture using the latest manufacturing techniques, something the label does to this day. Mart Stam had a background in architecture, product design and urban planning. He was the first furniture designer to move from producing furniture with four legs to designing innovative cantilever chairs using tubular steel.
Successfully managing to combine both retro and contemporary elements, this reworking of Mart Stam's Thonet S 34 Cantilever Armchair Leather is strikingly artistic in appearance and comfortable to use. Chrome-plated tubular steel seems to flow in one continuous line creating a base, frame and armrests. The frame is then spanned with high-quality black leather to form a seat and backrest that mould to the body. This chair is part of the label's cantilever range and works well as living room, dining room and office seating. The Thonet S 34 Cantilever Armchair Leather measures 57 x 84 x 64 cm. It has a seat height of 45.5cm and an armrest height of 67cm.
